The coal is an average quality thermal coal, and not a higher revenue thermal or even PCI coal.
The coal is not only too deep to surface mine, but would be far too expensive to surface mine, especially as it is only thermal coal. The only option to mine this coal would be to deep mine.
Not only is the coal deep, it is also heavily faulted and steeply dipping in the Pedirka Basin, which would make deep mining difficult.
