Sorry Stockrocker, I was a bit sloppy with my wording as I was well past my bedtime by that stage.

Basically, your bog standard purity hydrogen can be bought for about $24 per Mcf, and only the 'industrial grade' can be sold for $220 per Mcf. The ultra-pure hydrogen price is basically the value they are using when they say ~$600/Mcf (according to my sums, which may or may not be correct).

So the stuff they'll get out of the ground will be worth $24 or less per Mcf (again, according to my calculations), and I expect refining it is not cheap (otherwise the price of ultra-pure would not be ~25 times the price of your common or garden hydrogen).

Again, the helium price is high for the same reasons - what they get out of the ground won't high-purity helium.
