I am not suggesting for one minute that anyone buy on market now...as you suggest, it would be pretty close to throwing money away!
My options strategy was set way back when the price was just 10.5c...which is when the real oportunities presented themselves!
If I may say so, this strategy has been very effective...allowing me to lock in profits in both the shares (17, 16.5 and 16c) and options (3.5 down to 2.1), yet still maintain exposure along the way.
My decision not to sell all my options...and in fact, to buy a few more back again...occurred when the shares looked for all money like they were heading back over 15c again.
I could have either bought more shares at 14c, or hold my existing options and top up.
I did the latter and am glad I did.
