Short term pain for long term gain. As a shareholder I'm not fussed by the announcement I would much rather the board to be overly prudent as opposed to lax with their capital management of the company. There are likely a shopping list of reasons why this decision was made, and probably there is little to no revenue flowing in (or in the foreseeable future) since the dividends were declared.
