I would suggest that CBD has made the call that margins on PV and other renewable systems (hot water, space heating, etc. etc.) is going to be a small margin, relatively limited market with not a lot of potential expansion possible without a lot of capital input to stay up there with Eco-kinetics, Origin, Solco etc as well as the module makers themselves.
By ocmparison, electricity retailing is a highly contestable market potentially reaching most of the Australian households. A margin for profit is effectively mandated by law through the NEM and the regulators.
CBD may have run some numbers and decided to concentrate capital in profit growth areas (power sales/integrtion) away from an area of declining margin which will be under intense pressure for a long time.
