Yeah. I like these questions. Did the ring leaders manage to get to the escape hatch? I bet they didn’t. They thought they had two more years to run on a big line of credit out in the US. But the FC leak to AFR and the Feb 8 announcement likely caught them off guard just as it caught the market.
I suppose they managed to hide a little away but more likely they had margin and personal loans against the equity they owned. If there’s any consolation in this situation for cash investors it is that it’s likely the people at the top of this disaster will end up with a negative bank balance, not just empty. Once you start scamming you can’t stop. They will be margined to the hilt.
