WHL Energy seeks more offshore acreage

WHL Energy has lodged a further application for additional Australian offshore acreage, released as part of the 2011 acreage release.

The bid block contains a static gas field on the Australian southern margin as well as a number of undrilled prospects, and is expected to be competitively bid.

If successful, the acreage will likely provide WHL with early partnering opportunities. The company believes the acreage has the potential to be commercialised as early as 2015–16.

WHL expects to be notified in early 2012 if it has been successful.

WHL Energy was awarded one of nine new Western Australian offshore exploration permits by Federal Minister for Resources and Energy Martin Ferguson in November last year. WHL was awarded WA-460-P in the Exmouth Sub-basin of the Carnarvon Basin, together with Cottesloe Oil and Gas and Strike Energy.
