The Australian manager of small resort hotel on the Indonesian Island of Lombok is facing a possible 10-year jail sentence for possession of cannabis and cannabis seeds.

According to police in Lombok, which lies next to Bali on the Indonesian archipelago, 43-year-old Barbara Cathleen Higgs runs the Bulan Baru resort with her husband.

The hotel is popular with Australian tourists.

Police said she was arrested on Sunday at her house at Sengigi Beach.

She has been charged with possession of about 50 grams of cannabis and two small bags of seeds.

The couple has been resident on Lombok for about five years.
