Mouthing mantras does not make them reality. Addressing the humanitarian crisis that is 46 million refugees and asylum seekers should be above political self-interest.

Tony Abbott's role in first knee-capping Julia Gillard's efforts to formulate a regional management of asylum seeker solution and recently in making comments that Kevin Rudd fears may have place national security at risk, place Abbott at the top of the responsibility tree.

Henceforth it Abbott that has to answer for the lives being lost at sea and the survival of the people smuggler business model.

Abbott is slowly revealing to mainstream Australians that in his desperation to become PM he will run roughshod over the welfare of asylum seekers, risk insulting other nations and obstruct the efforts of the government.

Abbott must be held to account for what appears to be self-serving and grossly irresponsible behaviour.
