Anyone with a broker with similar arrangement to Opes should have started unwinding their accounts and started to get out as soon as the Opes story broke.
But there is a good chance that this will cause a wider panic. What will happen is that it will reported on the news that another broker has gone under. Without looking into it a good percentage of investors may then think that ALL brokers are in trouble and start closing accounts. So what do they do, sell stock and withdraw funds putting further stress on those in margin trouble which may cause more failures and so on and so on.
The lifeblood of markets is confidence, and if this mess continues people may be happier with their money under the bed.
