What's the prospect of BAL getting any kind of approval for anything in China if this is not going ahead? Probably small which another buyer would have to take into their (e)valuation for a competing bid.
all sort of emotional attachment to the side, there does not seem an alternative scenario, e.g. other buyer but limited chances of approval offering more value (even though it would have been great to see a stake being sold and not all of it).
