    Oh, I agree.

It's not that we should. We have to. At least for the foreseeable future anyway.

At this point in time, we simply don't have the installed capacity of renewable generation in Australia. Just as importantly, we don't have any bulk energy storage which is critical for a functioning renewable energy supply.

If we turned off coal tomorrow, we'd get very cold and hungry very quickly.

What we don't have that we need is a policy to manage that coal fired power for as long as is required. A solid policy and mechanism that allows coal power station owners to plan and invest with confidence for the transition. A plan that will see coal fired power facilities maintained so that they remain reliable until such time as they can be shut down.

Unfortunately, we don't have a plan. Instead we have obstruction. We had Abbott remove the carbon tax. We had Turnbull's NEG stillborn. We have Morrison rewarding his oil industry mates with huge subsidies for the gas industry and so on.
Flip flop policy positions that don't help the coal fired power stations at all.

Apparently Labor has plan. We are yet to see the details of that plan but given that they have a hard target ( according to them ), then they must have a mechanism for the industry to lever off during the transition.

I wait for the details with interest.
