    What utter delusional rubbish.
    The comments below are from an old colleague of mine, recently retired, and a globally recognised authority on the matter.

    "First your comment was, I believe, spot on, the cost of electricity is the key element. New coal fired power plants, the super critical plants , can have efficiencies in the mid to high 40s. This means they need less coal for their power output and in doing so produce less CO2 . Older plants have efficiencies in the Mid 30s but they were built in a earlier time.

    In Asian countries such as Indonesia, China and India ,electricity has to be affordable, available and dependable. Coal fired plants do that, gas to some degree and renewables much less so. Nuclear is expensive as is geothermal etc. However one over riding aspect is that the future power requirements of developing economies are such that all forms of power generation have a place. And low cost energy is a key factor in economic growth. Coal fired power plants continue to be built in all Asian countries which is a statement of the economics of such plants."
