Hi Dingle! Nice to have some fresh faces on HC. Welcome aboard.
You are correct in that I didn't mention NS Hong in this thread, although I have mentioned them previously. You are also correct in that they did write a cheque for $900,000 at the IPO to become a cornerstone investor.
At the time, it led me to conclude that Ikin wouldn't have given them such a large holding unless there were some "assurances" given by them as to after market support or introductions to other prominent HK/Chinese parties. Lo & behold, they have bought additional stock since listing(only 200K or so) & I am led to believe that given that EQH is a BVI registered company that the 20% takeover threshold can be breached without breaching the Aussie takeover laws.
The most that I can find out about NS Hong though is that they control Pacific Andes one of the largest seafood companies in the world.
Check out this link: http://www.pacificandes.com/html/corp_chairman_tribute.php
Putting 2 & 2 together, the founder & late chairman was Mr. Ng Swee Hong - N.S. Hong.
No doubt the heirs to the fortune have plenty of money at their disposal & you would suspect that they are well connected throughout Asia & probably worldwide. There is plenty of money in seafood & their company seems to be rather profitable.
I'd love to see them throw another $900K at EQH...
