Yeah, I'm familiar with Cat. 3. We had Cat. 3 Typhoon Rai come over the top of us in Leyte, Philippines Xmas 2021. Wind damaged our roof but no storm surge as we are on Western Side of the Island. Our holiday house off the coast on Apid Island had minor damage only.....
Storm surge is the big problem. In Tacloban in 2013 Typhoon Yolanda made a direct hit on Tacloban which is the capital of Leyte on the Eastern side. We were in Manila at the time. Winds were 315km's and the storm surge was above the lamp posts. 6000+ people were killed, that's just the ones they found. Locals told me thousands more were swept out to sea never to be found.
