    Hi All,

Looks like it will be another good opening this morning. SPT continues to release good announcements that will have a positive knock on effect for B Digital once the alliance agreement is signed which should be at the end of this month. Check out the charts and previous posts. Below is the announcement SPT made yesterday with regard to a broadband roll out:

PRESS RELEASE S P TELEMEDIA TO COMMENCE BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE ROLLOUT 9th February, 2004 The Chairman of S P Telemedia Limited (ASX Code : SOT), Mr Rob Millner, announced that following a Meeting of Directors held earlier today agreement had been reached and approval given to commence an investment by SOT in implementation of a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) based Broadband network throughout the eastern seaboard of Australia, with a concentration on regional markets. SOT has emerged as one of Australia’s largest infrastructure based telecommuncations operators, with strategic investments in telecommunications businesses including: • SPT, a broadband network owner and operater; • Comindico, a leading voice and internet wholesaler; • Kooee, a reseller of mainstream telecommunciations products; • B Digital, a carriage service provider of voice, mobile and internet telecommunciations, in which SOT is in the process of acquiring a strategic shareholding. The DSL network to be introduced by SOT will be inter-connected into the existing SPT broadband transmission network. SPT today operates what is regarded as Australia’s second largest regional access network, with core switching distributed throughout the eastern seaboard of Australia with in excess of 190 Points of Interconnect. This broadband network, over which MPLS based IP switching is operated, is ideal to provide backhaul services and carriage of data, internet, voice and other content services.
Mr Millner stated that “Directors have today agreed to commence investment in the deployment of DSL Access Modems in regional and metropolitan markets of Australia. This technology and infrastructure will be essential to the SPT business, providing last mile connectivity to existing and future data network customers. In addition, this DSL network will also be able to service our growing ADSL or broadband customer base across the SPT, Kooee, Comindico and B Digital businesses”. Michael Simmons, General Manager of SOT, noted that there are at least 150 exchanges in regional markets of Australia and 120 exchanges in capital cities have been identified for rollout, where the existing customer base and future opportunities will justify this infrastructure investment. “The DSLAM rollout has commenced with exchanges in Newcastle commissioned. This successful first implementation has given Directors the confidence to undertake what will be a significant investment in broadband infrastructure”. This network expansion will concentrate primarily on the regional markets of NSW, Victoria and Queensland. It will provide an essential local access network, particularly for the NSW Government Broadband Service recently secured by SPT and position SPT to pursue further state government business in Victoria and Queensland, following SPT inclusion on the state government panels for preferred telecommunications providers in NSW, Victoria and Queensland. Mr Simmons further stated “this broadband DSL investment will be made progressively, matched against the extensive current and future customers serviced. It will provide an enormous opportunity to continue the growth in our telecommunications businesses and ensure the ongoing competitiveness of those businesses”. _____________________________________________________________________ ISSUED FOR: SP TELEMEDIA LIMITED (ASX CODE: SOT) FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: MR MICHAEL SIMMONS, GENERAL MANAGER, S P TELEMEDIA LIMITED, TEL (02) 4926 5007 or 0427 507 939 OR MR DENIS LEDBURY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, S P TELEMEDIA LIMITED, TEL (02) 4929 2933
