A few years ago several REIT’s (one being Westfield) where strongly considering introducing hourly parking fee’s across their major shopping centres as an income source directed for the maintenance and development of their centres.

Wonder whether several of these REIT’s will be reviewing this point again, in order to;

1. Increase income streams
2. Assist in paying down debt that they carry.

I only know of two major centre currently doing this in Melbourne quite successfully. Geelong (Westfield) and Frankston(not sure now, previously Gandel)

Would be interest to hear of any others and people general thoughts of the concept?

Who would have thought 15 years ago we would be getting charged to use major freeways!
