Polling told him he was in danger but at what point. Probably when it was too late to do anything but say he was in great danger. He should have left before . My understanding based on the media is that he had Downer ask his Cabinet colleagues as to whether they wanted him to remain. Downer then canvassed his colleagues and the decision was that they thought he should quit. He apparently when told said he wouldnt go volantarily. I stand to be corrected but that is how I recall the media covered the situation. Maybe others can give their account of what is supposed to have happened.
