I seem to recall both Julia and Wayne, whilst attempting to sell their dirty big Toxic Carbon Tax, bleating how "Average Joe" need not worry because they would be compensated through adjustments to the marginal tax rates. Most notably, there was repeated reference to the tax free threshold increasing from $6000 to $18000. True, the tax free threshold has risen, but they didn't mention the impact on the bottom line of the adjustments to the other salary bands.

Here's an estimated saving in marginal tax payable on four different incomes when comparing 2011/2012 with 2012/2013:

Annual Income of $18200 will have a tax saving of $1800.00

Annual Income of $37000 will have a tax saving of $1078.00

Annual Income of $60000 will have a tax saving of $503.00

Annual income of $80000 will have a tax saving of $3.00

Annual income of $180000 will have a tax saving of $3.00

Go figure......will Labor's generous tax cuts compensate for the inflationary effects of the big new toxic carbon tax? I doubt it!
