I think he's just having a profoundly unhelpful rant about something that has NOTHING to do with the topic he raised.

Ok, so if it's the whole world that is currently insane (which I can't argue with) then, again, why raise the topic of religion? You do realise that the insanity that you are complaining about seems to be rising at the same time as religious participation is FALLING don't you? If anything, the insanity and violence it is the logical consequence of irreligious and not the other way around.
