Hello - I've had a skim through.
The patent describes the low level image processing that needs to occur in a digital camera before the input light can be translated into a usable image. Because image sensors typically consist of individual red, green, and blue sensors, some complicated maths has to be performed to make sure that the combination of these inputs forms a usable image that isn't too red, or too green, or too blurry, etc.
So, on the face of it, Jeffrey Edwards is into digital cameras now.
In the course of his usual OBJ work, if there was a reason for Jeffrey Edwards to be interested in image processing I would say it was in aid of Skin Advisor or similar. Correct translation of red/green/blue and chrominance/luminance would be important if assessing skin complexion.
Have fun
Dr Matt
