I wont pretend to get that. I believe you are correct when you say "in aid of Skin Advisor or similar." I expect it has to do with enabling a camera to better see below the skin surface. Its very surprising to me to see Jeff's name on this. Scientists have their speciality and I would have thought this to be well outside his area.
