I am sick to death of people peddling that gold is money, yes it might be, but the value can vary significantly (just like a commodity). In the 80s and 90s it was around $300 and now it is $1500 but it could well go back to $700 and stay there for 20 years. Gold historically moves with underlaying currency value but there can be long periods when it doesn't.
