Ten groups from Circular Head and the Coast have united to bring together a Community Rally in Smithton on Sunday June 23.

"There is a wide-spread view that the government is not being pro-active or effective enough in dealing with the serious economic conditions and job losses being faced. We want the government and all politicians to listen but also to take decisive action for our region," Joan Rylah chair of the organising committee said today.

"The impending Federal Court hearing to try to stop the opening of the environmentally approved Shree Mining project is the catalyst for this Rally. But there is a mountain of issues holding back jobs in this region. We want the government to stop pandering and to take action to open these doors which get slammed in the face of businesses and everyday people. Locals are saying that they want the government to be made accountable," Mrs Rylah said today.

"Appeasing the green and anti-everything minority does not put food on the table nor enable kids to be educated nor pay for doctors, nurses and police. Only wealth creating industries like responsible mining and clever and innovative businesses do that.

'"Shree and Venture are the key glimmers of hope to keep young people from moving interstate and to keep the doors of businesses open. With Tasmania in recession we all want action now.

The focus of the Rally will be 'Listen to the Majority - unlock Tasmania', with an emphasis on getting succinct and factual answers to the issues raised by the speakers. The Premier and the Leader of the Opposition are being invited and each will be given an equal opportunity to address the issues raised by the speakers
