Some brokers are given instructions to execute orders at VWAP throughout the day to ensure that larger orders don't have as much market impact. .
So for a larger order they can ping the market in smaller lots.
A 10,000 share order for example could be broken up into 200 share lots and executed every four minutes over 2 1/2 hours.
