What are you referring to as a 'rumour of another player'. What makes you think there is actually a counter-bidder?
While it'd certainly make things interesting, do you have any basis for these claims? It doesn't help to just move off pure speculation unless you state it as such.
Again, great if there is, but I'd like to hear some solid reasoning as to why you think so. Personally, I think the offer was increased as they saw the no votes were clearly going to get up at the scheme meeting.
