Name calling really doesn't help. Hitler doesn't really fit on the left/right political divide very well. He didn't become so powerful because he was a nut job, but because he tapped into a deep seated fear that the German people were going to be driven to extinction by more powerful countries. He was a Social Darwinist (terrible term as Darwin was anything other than a Social Darwinist) who believed the powerful nations would crush the weak nations and that time was against Germany.
