If you back up on the verse you mention above, the lawless (untruths) is sitting in the Temple = people, making out to be God and is being worshipped as such, you know, like a created trinity god etc.

that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.Example and power of this deception -> many believe that the Temple there is a prophesy of a 3rd Temple, despite the same writer telling them at least 3 - 4 times in Cor, that they are the Temple.
Another amazing delusion that the trinity believe -> John 17:3 - The Father who Jesus independently of himself defines as the only true God when he was here, they say that this only true God there is - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
