Interesting article with revealing quotes about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Turns out that they were bombed for other than the stated reasons of ending the war and saving lives. Nothing surprising about that. What is interesting is the quotes by those involved acknowledging that Japan was looking to surrender anyhow and that there was no need for nuking Japan.
Interestingly it notes that something I had wondered about was actually considered and that was the dropping of the bomb(if it actually needed to be dropped at all) on an uninhabited spot as a demonstration for the japanese.
Oh well, perhaps it's another myth's time to bite the dust. How many more left to go...?
