I'm pretty sure that shale or csg or whatever it takes to get hydrocarbons from the cooper will damage the environment there. In an ideal world, none of this would be necessary and we should be moving to renewable energy/ electric transport/ hydrogen fuel asap.

However, when faced with a choice of spoiling the cooper or the essential farm land where many make their homes, i think its clear that Strike's plans represent the lesser of two evils and I anticipate Strike's competitors having a fight on their hands. Thanks to the alliance between farmers and environmentalists, its the kind of fight they may not win.
