This is just my personal opinion.

He is still the same Mark Diamond, It's just that some people seeing him from a different angle?

He likes to smile when talking ..Maybe that's his personality? Always feel optimistic, happy, confident, friendly and positive?

"he seemed like he wanted to smile after every sentence" - maybe that's the hint of something(information)

I also have friends that like to smile while talking, that doesn't mean my friend lack of credibility.

Mother Teresa once said " We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do"

And I also believe the most powerful gesture is smiling!
