The construction of a railway line connecting Mbalam to the port of Kribi brings the Nkout iron mine exploitation project up to date. Located in the South Cameroon region about thirty kilometers from the town of Djoum, this mining deposit has a potential of 3 billion tonnes of ore. The company Caminex, a subsidiary of the Libyan Foreign Bank, which revealed the mine on this site, intends to seize the Cameroonian authorities to sign a mining agreement in order to develop this project.

In addition to the transport of minerals from the exploitation of the Avima, Badondo, Nabéba deposits in Congo and Mbalam in Cameroon, the Mbalam-Kribi railway that the Bestway Fibnance Ltd and AutSino Resources consortium wants to build will represent a boon for the 'exploitation of related mineral deposits. One of the most prominent is the Nkout iron deposit, in the southern region of Cameroon, about thirty kilometers from Mbalam. In the maneuver, the company Cameroon Mining Exploration (Caminex), owned by the Libyan Foreign Bank (LFB), itself a subsidiary of the Central Bank of Libya (BCL) which highlighted this mining project.

First promoted by Afferro Mining, which was then absorbed by the British International Mining and Infrastructure Corporation (Imic), before its takeover by LFB, the Nkout iron mine has a potential of 3 billion tonnes of minerals. "We intend to revive the Cameroonian authorities in the coming days, in order to sign a mining agreement with them for the development of Nkout, for which we are the holders of the exploration permit", reacted Elias Pungong in the columns of Jeune Afrique. In view of the challenges, the president of Caminex was present on June 25 at the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the construction of the 540 km railway. According to the pan-African weekly, Caminex has already disbursed nearly $ 300 million to finance the feasibility studies of Nkout and the Ntem mining project.
