Every company on the asx provides forward guidance (where have you been for 40 years?), then when the accounts are presented we get to know how accurate or inaccurate they were. When guidance materially changed under current rules you have to inform the market of that change in guidance otherwise you are in breach of the rules.
Although I admit there are some rogue companies that circumvent honesty - but you stay away from them as an investor because they are the speculative fringe.
