    I would not be so cruel as to suddenly remove such a cherished belief.
    All I said was ...

    and even that had a question mark on the end.

    Learning about the purpose of one's life includes the process of gradually unloading what is no longer needed.
    Otherwise you just get completely exhausted trying to carry a load that is unbearable.
