My financial advisor in what I think is an attempt to deter me from a SMSF, and to stay with a retail fund has told me that a SMSF can,t make an 'Anti Detriment' payment, I have little knowledge of this, anyone any thoughts?"
Presumably you're paying your financial advisor, yet you ask this question on an anonymous forum. Why wouldn't you ask the adviser to explain the above payment to you, and the pros and cons of being able to do this.
If you're asking here about it instead, it would suggest you don't trust the answer from the FA, which would in turn suggest you shouldn't be employing him.
If he thinks you should not start a SMSF, you need to ask him to list all the reasons why and ensure you understand what he says. It might be that he doesn't consider you have sufficient capital to make the costs worthwhile, or it may simply be that he is looking out for his own interests over and above your own.
We don't need to know the answer, but you certainly do.
