    that's correct - I said there is no logical parallel -- there isn't --

we will never know ------------- we can never know.

The two stages of history are completely different - in the first case (both WW1 and WW2) - America was late

but, since then - America has caused wars (mind you - they forced Japan into WW2 as well) --

however, as far as the ME goes - there is no question that the US is and has been the aggressor --

and, they have reaped the results of being an aggressor --------- they have enemies - enemies so pissed off that they want to come to America and blow things up, fly planes into buildings, shoot people - as you do if some idiot is over at your place bombing your families and homes

it's a natural response to being attacked

what America should be asking when they join that long long long queue at the airport to be body searched and they walk by ground zero in New York is

    is it worth it?

Are we better off now than we were a few decades back?

    Who has benefited from this?

As to ourselves --- Australia - we should well be asking - have we done well from following our mate the USA to Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and god knows where else?

Should we follow them on their next sandy or jungle quest? Or should we just say - na, thanks we might sit this one out?

There is no point in following a dickhead around if they keep picking fights and making enemies -

and, in this case - not just picking fights - but, losing every single one of them

that's a certain kind of stupid
