The Merchant of Venice can be interpreted in more than one way.
My interpretation is that Shakespeare was illustrating how endemic racism against minorities can't be successfully fought by using justice systems and results in human tragedy for the oppressed.
The idea that the play was about triumph over the evil Jew is quite facile and an insult to Shakespeare's contribution to humanity. It represents endemic racism.
