WOW would have been better off buying up the "Hardware House" chain a few years ago and building on that base, but alas, it went to Bunnings.
We used to have a MITRE 10 opposite our local Bunnings (before it was a warehouse), and the MITRE 10 shop just closed up after many years of operation as it could not compete on the 10% price guarantee.
I thought the Qantas frequent Flyer deal with WOW was pretty shrewd, but taking on the star performer of a well run conglomerate - well, that's just dumb & going to be very costly to holders.
WOW should be more concerned with the turn around of Coles in the next couple of years in stead of trying to replicate Bunnings - Look for the weakest link in the opposition and then improve on that !
Maybe it's time for WES to buy out Jar-Car Electronics to give Dick Smith a run and do a deal with Virgin for some type of loyalty rewards (LOL) - Anyone in WES read HC ?
