As the Hebrew Bible was not written before the supposed return from exile post 535 BCE, the pre-Solomic mention of Jerusalem has been questioned by many wishing to allocate the founding of the city to Solomon.

Meanwhile others have sought to link Jerusalem to the SLM (Salem) of MLKTzDQ (Melchizedek) in Genesis, but this too if fanciful, if not outright false.

The Romans were aware of the false and misleading information penned by the Jews when they razed Jerusalem in 70 CE and rebuilt the city as Aelia Capitolina (after Hadrian's surname), which would remain its official name until late antiquity. However the aelia component may also play upon Greek ulhn in its original name.
