History is full of wrong doings, For instance, the Khmer Rouge regime murdered hundreds of thousands of their perceived political opponents, and its racist emphasis on national purity was not much different than that of their nazi counterparts.

However, the holocaust represents what antisemitism and prejudice can lead to in the heart of the developed world if any particular group of people or race becomes the scapegoat for a severe economic downturn.

"By the 1930’s, Europe, and the rest of the world, were in the grips of the Great Depression, which saw unemployment increase rapidly. As well, Germany was experiencing hyperinflation (a loss of value in their currency) due to the reparation payments of the Treaty of Versailles which was forced upon Germany at the end of World War I. These two events combined to set the stage for the growth of anti-Semitism and eventually the Holocaust. Since Jewish people were historically stereotyped as controlling banks and other sources of money they became an easy and convenient target for the source of Germany’s economic problems".

"the brutality of the Holocaust highlighted the ability of human beings to treat each other in horrible ways. For example, Jewish and other people deemed ‘undesirable’, were subjected to ghettos, concentration camps and death camps. In each of these situations the victims faced terrible conditions, including: overcrowding, lack of water, lack of food, brutal treatment by the Nazi guards and unsanitary conditions which led to the spread of infectious diseases."

"The final significance of the Holocaust was the renewed focus on human rights after 1945, when both World War II and the Holocaust ended. "

"Australia's Refugee and Humanitarian Program helps refugees and people in humanitarian need who areutside Australia (offshore), and need to resettle to Australia when they do not have any other durable solutions available; or already in Australia (onshore), and who want to seek protection after arriving in Australia...

Australia has successfully settled more than 950,000 refugees and others in humanitarian need. Australia is committed to compassionate and flexible Humanitarian and Settlement Programs that meet our international protection obligations, and position Australia as a global leader in international resettlement efforts. A total of 20,000 places in Australia's 2023–24 Humanitarian Program will ensure that we can provide permanent resettlement to those most in need from around the world, and protection in Australia to those who require it.

Increasing the size of the Humanitarian Program delivers on Australia's global resettlement commitments while ensuring mechanisms are in place to advance and grow complementary pathways. This provides ongoing national economic and social benefits. The offshore component of the Humanitarian Program prioritises humanitarian entrants and refugees of nationalities from three major regions:the Middle East, such as Iraq, Syria and Iran Asia, such as Myanmar and Afghanistan Africa, such as Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan."
