Let me correct a misconception here. We simply don't know how many of those ~1000 deaths were from covid.
By we, I mean our government.
Why is that? As in many countries, the statistics being generated by hospitals were including deaths they shouldn't have been.
It seems that anyone entering a hospital and suspected of covid was tested - if positive, and then died for any other reason (or after they'd recovered from covid) was recorded as a covid death.
Covid deaths worldwide pale in comparison to the top few killers - cardiac events, cancer and straight-up malpractice (yes that's a leading cause of death).

The important difference is the distinction between dying with covid, and dying of/from covid.

Were it not for border closures and lockdowns tens of thousands of Australians would have died and our hospitals overr-run.
I don't disagree that border closures and lockdowns have helped covid deaths - however there needs to be a study done weighing up the lives lost due to suicide, domestic abuse, desperate criminals, drug/alcohol dependency (not to mention education gaps, a ruined economy and other non fatal issues) etc as a direct result of lockdowns. The economic impact is far from over, how many Australians have been plunged into poverty?

And I think I recall you being against ivermectin and alternative treatments - but the evidence is getting stronger that we've been providing sub optimal care in Aus due to our TGAs decision...
A recent study... make of it what you will - if you bother to check it out
