additionally i am guessing that gas prices were far lower at the time of the cbm assets becoming available - russia too would have been only just emerging from the debt crisis she endured in the late nineties, consequently making her far less assertive than she is now re gas supply/pricing (china's growth, another factor coming to the fore in people's calculations in all of this)
