By all accounts there will be no announcement regarding the valuation paperwork being in the hands of both parties or the 28 days starting. Based on my information so far, I'd suggest we probably won't hear the outcome of the whole option decision until around mid JAN 2013, unless Xstrata Suprise everyone with a quick decision!
As history shows, Xstrata move at their own speed and it could be frustratedly slow...no need to panic if you are a long timeframe trader. I believe Alistair is working in the best interests of shareholders and will understand the big picture and complexities of what's at stake better than most.
