1135 [Dow Jones] Air New Zealand (AIZ) says planning to make announcement
later today, minutes after cross-Tasman rival Qantas (QAN) requests trading
halt. Speculation has intensified in recent months about Qantas acquiring up
to
25% stake in NZ carrier; also speculation Qantas to announce capital
raising.
Airline expected to report tomorrow that FY02 net profit jumped 46% to
A$424.9
million, boosted by burgeoning domestic operations, according to Dow Jones
survey of eight analysts. Qantas shares last traded at A$4.69, while Air NZ
shares on ASX up 2 cents at 53 Australian cents. (LXV)
