That's how u maximise tapping into a coal seam for UCG, by drilling horizontally.
If it was CSG, then u drill multiple vertical holes, fracture the coal, drain all the formation water for a while & then suck the gas.
With UCG, u inject steam & Oxygen to burn the coal in its place in a controlled fashion.
As the coal sits pretty horizontal in the Pedirka, this could b applied here, hence JH's comments.
