I'm going to bet that over those 20 years you would have been told a number of times how expensive houses were and how the average family just can't afford a house.
I'm also willing to bet that there was the odd person who would say "they just can't go any higher, they are unaffordable right now!"
I have heard that many times and am still hearing it.
