any labor voters left here?, page-9

The Sunday Mail's editorial this morning focuses on the week's antics and the Galaxy Poll today which shows that, remarkably, there is still a fixed core who would tick Labor "1":

""This is the 27th negative poll in a row for Ms Gillard and her colleagues.

The Labor Party does not have much time for ordinary Australians, and the feeling is mutual.

Today's exclusive Galaxy Poll suggests the fiasco of the last few days has not reduced primary support for the ALP. That's because it couldn't fall much lower. Most people had already written them off.

The resilient 32 per cent loyalty level represents dyed-in-the-wool Labor voters who perhaps remember the days when the party attracted politicians who stood for something more than self-interest and opportunism.""

As troubling as the Labor leadership chaos has become, what is at least as troubling is the fact that about 31% of voters are so dim, or so detached from what's happening, or so consumed with hatred of the Liberals, or so uncaring of Australia's future under this rabble - or perhaps all of these - that they will still support a Gillard government. It really beggars belief; has there been a mass lobotomy we somehow missed?

    Strange stuff indeed.
