The days where there is an impartial review agency in any consumer area seems to have long gone.
No doubt there is still the facade but you quickly find out who's paying the piper.

My daughter recently had a rear strut (shocky) needing replacing . . . Took it to Mar###s (WA) & had it done, only to find later that they did the front set instead of the back. Bad enough that their mistake put all travelling in the car in danger, but when we presented them with their mistake, they "graciously" offered to do the back set & give a 50% discount on the labour (only)
When we took the case to Fair Trading their assessment was that Mar###s offer seemed reasonable. . . . . they make a mistake (or otherwise) and the consumer pays for rectify it ?????

The lesson . . . . don't be diluded that these gov or semi gov consumer protection agencies are anything but speed bumps for the business sector.
If your claim is substantial then waste no time & get a lawyer, if it's not, swallow the anger & take your business elsewhere and tell everyone you know that XYZ Insurance is a ripoff . . . . if you have a business, tell all your customers (we have a "News" frame on our website where, as a public service, we warn anyone having repairs done by Mar###s to ensure the correct thing has been done BEFORE they signoff on the job, & we are pleased at the number of people that ring and ask what that warning is all about)
