And yes...the us have actually called their energy bill the "energy independence and security act"....so it is the independence from foreign oil which is one major factor in their thirst for biofuel..

The other huge driver is the midwest farmers who love the huge hike in soy bean oil...they probably don't give a hoot about the food vs fuel debate...they have traditionally grown a huge surplus in grain and have dumped (!!) it rather than give it to the hungry...unbelievable...but good for the future of biodiesel...they will become a huge producer and that is their aim through this new bill...
