I commend you. I want to do the same thing when I retire. I'm too busy at work to do too much, but I do help a local shelter. I collect food from various local supermarkets that donate to the shelter and deliver it to them, I donate approximately $600 a year worth of goods myself, I spend $200 on their big raffle each year, and I support their other fund raising activities. The best thing I did though was pay $500 to adopt our Coolie cross Dalmatian almost five years ago. He came to our home as a very insecure, nervous 18 month old dog and now he is the most happy, fun loving , relaxed guy I know. He has lots of friends, goes on walks twice a day and the local people love him. To see the change in him has been amazing and I am grateful everyday that we were lucky enough to adopt him. Giving animals a second chance at life is one of the most fulfilling things a person can do.
